WHAT I OFFER:
- 90 minutes of teacher-led discussion and teaching. My students will not be abandoned to “self-study” on computers.
- An intense, academic focus on content and understanding with emphasis on literature essay writing skills .
- Preparatory reading and homework will be set and checked. Some help with work set at school will be given.
- Notes, annotations and a storehouse of online resources. Critical articles will extend and challenge students.
- Practice questions and top-scoring exemplars will be provided. A mock-exam will be done in your own time.
- Marking of essays and detailed, individual feedback and comments based on the marking memo.
- Absolute safety and confidentiality. I pledge honesty, responsibility and commitment to my students.
- An assessment (report) of students’ strengths, and strategies to improve at the end of the 10 lesson module.
- Quarterly reports and rewards will be presented to Junior Students.
- Responses, within 24 hours, to e-mailed questions from 4-9 pm weekdays.
- All classes will be taught by me – not by university students.
- Essay writing is taught with your text as a basis, not in a general way, as is the case with many tutoring schools.
PLEASE NOTE: Reading and writing tasks will be set as preparation or homework, so lessons are teacher-driven and content-heavy, with all 90 minutes devoted to delivery of the subject matter, and focused discussion. You have the knowledge and expertise of a knowledgeable teacher, currently teaching, rather than an Engineering student tutoring English.
I am currently starting with a focus on Year 7/8, 9 and 10 English, CIE AS English, and will move on to A Levels, IGCSE, NCEA L1-3 and IB soon. My focus is on motivated and hard-working students who want to excel academically and score A*, and who aspire to greater heights at University and in the future.
I regret that I will not accept students who are poorly-behaved, lack interest and do not complete classwork and homework set.
