I will start with face-to-face classes in Term 1 of 2020 and move on to live-streamed classes in Term 2 2020 when the technology has been implemented and tested.
All you need is a computer, a webcam and microphone, and an internet connection. A broadband Internet connection, preferably connected directly by Ethernet cable from the router to the computer and with a speed of at least 8 Mbps of download and 2 Mbps of upload. If you cannot connect by Ethernet cable, try to position yourself close to the router to obtain a strong Wi-Fi signal. A quiet environment is essential.
Once your first registration with MasterEnglish has been processed, you will receive a one-time email from that will contain your user ID and password. After you have enrolled in an offering of a course (and with each subsequent enrolment), you will receive an email with details about that offering.
Every live session is fully recorded and archived. These archived sessions become available the next morning and are thereafter accessible 24/7. If you miss a session, you can return at a time convenient for you and re-watch as many times as needed. Many students also find the archives to be an excellent resource to make notes from.
Recordings will be made available via this site shortly after the class has taken place.
Recordings are available for 3 weeks after the last session of your class.
The learning method is based on real-time online lectures and discussions in a well-planned virtual classroom in which both the tutor and student can see and hear each other. The classes will be complemented with annotated texts, critical articles, study guides, notes, exemplars, question banks, PowerPoints, multimedia material, examiner’s reports and a recording of the lesson for viewing later. Also, students are free to pose questions and get involved in online chats and discussions forums. Much of the lesson will be teacher-driven and academic, whilst at the same time catering for an individual’s questions and needs. Preparatory work, either written or reading tasks, will be set to maximise the benefit of the class. An essay a week is compulsory.
